Yobe State, Nigeria – In a devastating attack by Boko Haram terrorists, at least 87 people were reportedly killed in Yobe State, with 37 bodies already recovered from the village of Mafa in the Tarmuwa Local Government Area.
The remains of the victims have been transported to Babbangida General Hospital, where preparations are underway for a mass burial scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Babangida Emir’s Palace.

The burial is expected to be attended by Yobe State Deputy Governor, Hon Idi Barde Gubana, and other senior government officials. Community sources revealed that the death toll could be higher, as some victims’ remains are yet to be found, with many reportedly dying in the bush during the attack.
The assault, which took place around 4 p.m., saw insurgents attacking villagers as they returned from their farms. In addition to the killings, the terrorists set homes and businesses ablaze, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
In a similar incident last month, Boko Haram insurgents killed two people and displaced 475 households in the Mafa ward. The recent attack is believed to be a retaliation for the villagers’ alleged cooperation with the military, providing intelligence that led to a successful operation against the insurgents in July.
The Yobe State Police Command and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brigadier-General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Retired), confirmed the attack. Military forces have been deployed to the area to restore order.
Mafa village, the site of the attack, is located near Shekau village, the birthplace of the late Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau. The situation remains tense as security forces continue to monitor the area.
