Tinubu and Xi Jinping Forge Strategic Ties.
President Bola Tinubu has revealed that his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, the Chinese capital, was fruitful and beneficial to Nigerians, adding that it strengthened the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The president announced a comprehensive development partnership between the two nations in a tweet on Tuesday, September 3.
During an official visit to Beijing, President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria and President Xi Jinping of China signed several significant agreements, marking a new chapter in Nigeria-China relations.
The visit, which also serves as a precursor to the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), saw both leaders elevate their nations’ ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Five MoUs Tinubu signed with China
A statement from the presidency, shared by Dada Olusegun, Tinubu’s special assistant, on social media, updated the deals by listing the five memorandums of understanding signed between the two countries.

The following are the five key agreements signed between the two presidents:
1. Belt and Road Initiative Cooperation Plan:
Nigeria and China committed to jointly promoting the Belt and Road Initiative, a global development strategy aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and embracing economic growth through infrastructure development.

2. Peaceful Application of Nuclear Energy:
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to cooperate on the peaceful use of nuclear energy, emphasizing the mutual benefits of nuclear technology for energy, health, and other sectors.
3. Human Resource Development under the Global Development Initiative:
Both nations agreed to strengthen cooperation in human resource development, aligning with China’s Global Development Initiative. This MoU aims to enhance capacity building and development programs.
4. Media Exchange and Cooperation:
An MoU on media exchange and cooperation was signed, fostering greater collaboration between Nigerian and Chinese media organizations to promote cultural understanding and information sharing.
5. China Media Group and Nigerian Television Authority Partnership:
A specific MoU was established between China Media Group and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), focusing on media content exchange, technological advancements, and collaborative projects.
President Tinubu expressed his commitment to economic reforms in Nigeria, drawing parallels with China’s reform strategies under President Xi.
He highlighted Nigeria’s potential as Africa’s largest economy and emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties for mutual growth and stability.
President Xi, in his remarks, emphasized the long-standing mutual understanding between the two nations and pledged continued collaboration within the FOCAC framework, positioning Nigeria-China relations as a model of cooperation in the Global South
