Grant Wahl, US sportswriter dies while covering World Cup game in Qatar
Grant Wahl, an American sportswriter, passed away while covering the World Cup in Qatar, according to his family and US Soccer.
Mr. Wahl, a former Sports Illustrated reporter who later worked for Substack, passed away while covering the match between Argentina and the Netherlands.

He reportedly fell back in his seat during overtime in a section of the stadium designated for journalists, eye witnes seated nearby.
Although emergency services arrived very quickly in response to their call for help, they later learned that Mr. Wahl, who was thought to be 49 years old, had passed away.
There are no additional details available regarding his passing.

On Twitter, his wife Dr. Celine Gounder expressed gratitude to those who had “reached out” but she also said: “I’m in complete shock”
“I was in the stadium when I later learned that there had been a problem, probably about 10 rows back from where I was broadcasting.
“Grant, whom I knew, respected, and had some dealings with, was the person I only learned about this morning because he had everyone’s contact information in his contact book.

“He was such a great representative of the international game and the game we all love.
