Professor Alphonsus B.C. Nwosu, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), has stated he did not leave the party due to Peter Obi.

There are rumors that Nwosu left the PDP because of his outspoken support for Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, and his advocacy for the South East producing Nigeria’s next president. Nwosu, however, downplayed that idea.

In an interview with Newsmen that was published on Friday, Prof. Nwosu stated, “Obi knows that I don’t work for him.”

He is aware that no one can force me to do anything against my personal preferences. We just so happen to share the same goals for a better Nigeria. We desire for Nigeria to prosper. The sincerity with which Atiku Abubakar spoke about restructuring was another factor that drew me to him.

I went to Atiku’s house to offer to work for him in 2019 because I wanted the APC’s misrule to end after one term. We have a very good relationship. However, everyone who knows me is aware that you will never be able to hold my soul; instead, my creator holds it.

I didn’t leave because of Obi, he continued. I walked away because I could not accept that you could sign a contract and then break it.

I wanted to get myself back because it goes against my soul. Whatever anyone says, I am content and I won’t argue with them if they have an opinion on the matter, especially if they are Igbo.
