The NYSC DG shared this update during an interactive session with the House of Representatives Committee on Youths on Thursday. The committee, led by Chairman Martins Esin, had sought information and expressed deep concern about the situation involving the abducted corps members in Zamfara State.

He stated, “Once information is out, we will have a seamless situation.”

Responding to a query from Clement Jimboh (Akwa Ibom) regarding the possibility of providing buses for corps members to enhance their security, the NYSC DG explained that this would depend on budgetary allocations and feasibility. He assured the committee that proactive measures would be taken to address security concerns.

Regarding the welfare of corps members, the DG confirmed that plans are underway to increase their allowances, contingent upon the announcement of the new minimum wage. He also emphasized the importance of the National Assembly’s cooperation in establishing the NYSC Trust Fund, which would empower corps members after completing their one-year national service.

In a show of solidarity and support for the affected families, the House Committee encouraged the NYSC management to visit the families of the kidnapped corps members to express empathy. They also reassured the families that the government remains committed to ensuring the safe return of their children from the bandits’ captivity.
