Osun State Governor Adeleke Approves Wage Awards to Mitigate Subsidy Removal Impact

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has taken proactive steps to cushion the impact of subsidy removal by approving a wage award for civil servants and pensioners in the state.

In a bid to fulfill his commitment to the welfare of workers and provide palliative measures following the removal of the petroleum subsidy, Governor Adeleke announced the approval of a wage award aimed at alleviating the financial strain faced by workers and pensioners.

Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson, confirmed the approval in a circular issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Capacity Building. The circular, signed by Sunday Olugbenga Fadele, a permanent secretary in the ministry, outlined the specifics of the governor’s decision.

The circular disclosed that active workers in the state’s service will receive a monthly wage award of N15,000, while pensioners will receive N10,000. This financial support is set to be disbursed over a six-month period, commencing from December 2023.

According to the circular, Governor Adeleke acknowledged the impact of the subsidy removal on citizens and sought to alleviate their financial burdens by implementing these palliative measures.

It highlighted the government’s commitment to the welfare of workers, emphasizing its continuous efforts to improve their conditions in line with its 5-point Action Plan.
