Nasir El-Rufai: I no longer believe in leadership quality around Buhari
Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State caused a political stir yesterday, ahead of next week’s presidential election, by declaring that he no longer believed in the quality of leadership surrounding President Muhammadu Buhari and claiming that a cabal within the Presidency was working towards an Interim National Government (ING).
However, the Presidency and the All Progressives Congress, APC, remained silent last night despite attempts to obtain a response from them.

El-Rufai stated in an interview with newsmen that the leaders surrounding President Buhari turned to ING after failing to appoint CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele or Senate President Ahmad Lawan as Buhari’s successor.
His remarks prompted criticism from the Middle Belt Forum, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu, and a senior leader of the Peoples Democratic Party.
However, attempts to get the APC and the party’s presidential campaign council to comment on the issue were unsuccessful because the leaders refused to comment.

El-Rufai, who has been outspoken, particularly regarding the naira redesign policy of the CBN, claiming that “Villa elements” were working against the APC Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, told journalists that he no longer believed in the leadership quality surrounding President Buhari.
El-Rufai stated, “I still believe in Buhari and will never stop, but I no longer believe in his inner circle and the quality of decisions and actions emanating from that leadership.”
