The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has reportedly taken disciplinary action against several Nollywood actresses, placing them on a secret watchlist due to allegations of romantic involvement with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In an internal memo released on Friday, the AGN also announced the indefinite suspension of actress Halima Abubakar, citing her involvement in defaming influential figures within the industry.

The suspension follows a two-year investigation by a special panel, which concluded that Abubakar was behind slanderous reports of extramarital affairs involving high-profile individuals linked to members of the guild.

During her suspension, Abubakar will face the AGN’s National Disciplinary Committee to determine further penalties. The guild emphasised that she is banned from participating in all AGN activities or film projects pending the outcome.

AGN Memo Highlights

According to the memo, other Nollywood stars such as Dakore Eguson, Ini Edo, Nancy Isime, and social influencer Hilda Baci were mentioned in connection with Akpabio, intensifying the controversy. The guild’s investigative panel is still examining these allegations to establish their credibility.

The AGN stated that it is closely monitoring its members’ interactions with political figures, and violations could lead to further disciplinary measures. The memo also warned that the guild’s national taskforce is on alert to enforce compliance with the suspension.

Industry Implications

This development casts a spotlight on the intersection of politics and entertainment in Nigeria, with the involvement of public figures such as Akpabio drawing widespread attention.

The AGN’s decisive actions reflect growing concerns about the reputational risks associated with personal scandals and how they could impact the entertainment sector.
