Akpabio is one of the most prominent candidates for Senate President.

During Saturday’s visit, Akpabio was accompanied by Barau Jibrin, senator for Kano North, and David Umahi, governor of Ebonyi State, who recently withdrew his Senate President candidature and endorsed Akpabio.

The governor of Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje, has also expressed support for Akpabio’s candidature.

Meanwhile, Reports making rounds claims that President-elect Bola Tinubu has imposed a condition on former Niger Delta Affairs Minister Godswill Akpabio in order to reach an agreement on a Senate candidate.

According to sources, Tinubu asked Akpabio to produce 60 senators who have endorsed him as proof of his popularity for the Senate presidency race.

Akpabio followed Tinubu to Rivers State earlier this week to persuade him by presenting the 41 senators-elect who supported Tinubu during a state banquet held in Port Harcourt in honour of the President-elect.

“They (senators-elect) are the ones who will evaluate your policies,” Akpabio said. They are the ones who will advise you on a daily basis and will show you complete dedication to bringing peace to Nigeria.

“There are senators from the NNPP, senators from the Labour Party, senators from the PDP, senators from the YPP, and senators from the APC standing before you.”

“Mr. President, we have 109 senators, but only 60 are scheduled to be here tonight.” We didn’t have enough planes to transport everyone.”

However, it is unclear whether Akpabio and his colleagues’ show of support was sufficient to meet Tinubu’s condition for endorsement.

According to sources, Tinubu may choose to remain neutral in the leadership elections to avoid the appearance of bias, which could be counterproductive if his preferred candidates do not win.

However, as at the time of filing in this report, Egesgist Media Limited could not independently verify this information from our source as all attempts made to the senator-elect, Akapbio were all abortive.

Senators Orji Uzor Kalu, Sani Musa, Godswill Akpabio, and Abdulaziz Yari are among the candidates vying for the position of Senate President.
