Aliko Dangote came to Lagos with nothing 45 years ago, says Sanwo-Olu
The Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has received commendation from the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for establishing a refinery in Nigeria, specifically in Lagos.
He delivered the commendation during his address at the current inauguration of the refinery.
The speaker stated that Mr. Dangote, who migrated from Kano to Lagos, started with humble beginnings 45 years ago. However, he has since established a vast business enterprise in Nigeria that has brought pride to the African continent.
According to him, the initial narrative revolves around a youthful Nigerian from 45 years ago, wherein the story highlights a remarkable coincidence.
Forty-five years ago, a man arrived in Lagos from the mega-city of Kano. This individual witnessed the prosperity and diversity of our country and embarked on a journey to build an empire from scratch. Today, after 45 years of hard work and dedication, this individual has successfully established the largest empire in the world for Africa.

Today, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemical Project, which is a subsidiary of Dangote Industries Limited under the ownership of Aliko Dangote, was commissioned.
The facility is situated at Dangote Industries Free Zone in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos. Its primary objective is to refine crude oil grades sourced from Africa, Asia, and America. The refinery has a capacity to produce a surplus of approximately 38 million litres of petrol, diesel, kerosene, and aviation fuel daily, which is intended for use in Nigeria.

The refinery has a capacity to refine 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day and converts it into various petroleum products including diesel, petrol, jet fuel and kerosene.
The refinery is capable of producing petrol and diesel of Euro-V quality, in addition to jet fuel and polypropylene.
According to the company’s statement, the facility was specifically designed to handle a diverse range of crude oils, including various African and Middle Eastern crudes, as well as United States Light Tight Oil.
