Social Media Influencer Sentenced to One Year in Prison for Celebrity Scam.
A Lagos Federal High Court has sentenced self-acclaimed social media influencer and model, Aluko Tunmise, to one year in prison for engaging in a celebrity scam.
Ejes Gist News reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Tunmise on a one-count charge of cybercrime, specifically for impersonating a white man named “Keanu Reeves” on his Telegram account.

This online news platform gathered that Tunmise pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke. The prosecution presented evidence from an EFCC operative, Vincent Sunday Kwambuge, who detailed the defendant’s arrest in March 2024 at Lekki County Estate, Lagos. An iPhone 12 Pro Max was recovered from Tunmise at the time of his arrest.
According to the prosecution, Tunmise confessed to engaging in celebrity scam, an impersonation of celebrities, and forensic evidence was printed from his phone.

Justice Aneke sentenced Tunmise to one year in prison with an option of a fine of N300,000 and 100 hours of community service. Additionally, his mobile phone was ordered to be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
According to the Judge, the sentence will serve as a warning to those engaging in online fraudulent activities, and the EFCC’s efforts to combat cybercrime continue to yield results.
