Matawalle demanded Bawa’s resignation in a statement released on Wednesday, claiming he had questions to answer regarding corruption.

However, the EFCC Chairman responded that he had nothing to hide and requested that Matawalle petition the proper authorities if he had evidence against him.

Matawalle insisted in an interview with BBC Hausa that Bawa could not be trusted.

“It is not appropriate to always fault governors. In addition to governors, the federal government also has a treasury. What does the head of the EFCC do to them? As he claims to have evidence regarding governors, he must also provide evidence regarding federal officials.

“If he leaves office, everyone will know he is not an honest individual. I possess proof against him. Let him resign; I guarantee that within 10 seconds, more than 200 individuals will present evidence of bribes he accepted from them. He is aware of what he asked of me, but I declined.

“I have evidence that he requested a $2 million bribe from me. He invited me to the house where we met and explained the rules. He told me that governors would be visiting his office, but I did not observe this. If I lack evidence, I will not say this.”

Contacted for a response, Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman for the anti-corruption agency, stated that he had not seen the article and therefore could not comment.
