APC Chairman And 25 Others Arrested Over Recent Killings in Ebonyi

APC Chairman Arrested: More than 26 suspects have been detained by Ebonyi police in connection with recent murders and arson in the Ekoli Edda Community, in the Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Stanley Okoro-Emegha, the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, and Eni Chima, a former chairman of the Afikpo South LGA and candidate for the Federal House of Representatives in the Afikpo North/South Constituency in the general election of 2023, were among those detained.

On Monday, January 23, 2023, the suspects were paraded through the Abakaliki police department’s main building.

According to SP Chris Anyanwu, the spokesperson for the Command, State Commissioner of Police Aliyu Garba, the suspects were detained in connection with the killings and the destruction of homes on December 26, 2022.

In addition, three people—Esien Kalu, Inspector Festus Akpan, and Emu Orji—were murdered. These crimes included conspiracy, armed robbery, arson, illegal firearm possession, malicious damage, and arson.

In spite of the recommendations made by the Commission of Inquiry appointed by Governor David Umahi of the state, the police claim that the suspects must face the full force of the law.

The key players among the suspects detained provided helpful “confessional statements” that revealed the overall overwhelming findings according to the PPRO.

The governor made more than three trips to the area in an effort to bring about peace in the Edda Clan, and he eventually established a Board of Enquiry and Reconciliation under the leadership of renowned Senator Sunny Ogbuoji.

It is obvious that the conflict at Ekoli-Edda, Afikpo-South of Ebonyi State on December 26 was caused by the supremacy dispute between Hon. Stanley Okoro Emegha and Hon. Eni Uduma Chima.

The spokesperson continued, “A prima facie case of conspiracy, armed robbery, arson, unlawful possession of firearms, and malicious damage have been established against them. Fourteen of the entire suspects arrested (some still at large) will be arraigned immediately in court.

One AK-47 rifle with live ammunition, two pump-action rifles, a Dane gun, a village gong, a trumpet, and three AK-47 magazines were among the items seized from the suspects.
