- ASUU raises eyebrow over selective payment of medical lecturers’ salaries
The Federal Government is allegedly seeking to fracture the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) by choosing particular medical lecturers for payment of their unpaid salary while other academic staff are ignored.
The union specifically accused the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, of favouring his professional colleagues by paying medical instructors at the Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto seven months’ wages.

M. N. Almustapha, and S. A. Sadiku, the union’s secretary, said in a statement that such action would not go down well for the university system.
Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, the National President of ASUU, pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to summon the minister to order in a discussion with Newsmen.

In private conversations with newsmen, lecturers and senior ASUU members revealed that the government only paid half of their salaries. These conversations took place under the strictest of confidences.
“We were only paid for the days after the strike,” stated a senior member of the National Executive Council (NEC).

I was given one-half of the salary. Other members are currently upset, and they are directing their anger toward the NEC because the strike was called off.
