The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party (LP) opponent, Peter Obi, have played down speculation about their preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
The statement follows a breakfast encounter between the two in Yola, Adamawa State’s capital, which sparked conjecture.

According to Atiku’s spokesman, Paul Ibe, the encounter was simply a reunion of two long-time friends.
Ibe added that Obi was invited to be the keynote speaker for the American University of Nigeria’s (AUN) 20th anniversary and 16th Founder’s Day.
Atiku Abubakar founded the university.
I’ve urged, “Let us not act too quickly. The fact is that Obi agreed to be the keynote speaker for AUN’s 20th anniversary and 16th Founder’s Day, which was a significant milestone.
Obi is part of the festivity. “The university was founded by Atiku Abubakar, who was similar to his host. However, many individuals believe this is due to politics. We all know our pals.
The truth is that politics cannot divide friends. So Atiku invited him to breakfast, and then they proceeded to the programme. I believe that is what happened.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Umar, Obi’s media adviser, confirmed Ibe’s allegation, claiming the meeting had no political undertones. There was nothing like that. They just invited Obi to give a speech there.
“It has nothing to do with politics,” Umar explained. Despite these denials, there is widespread talk regarding a possible merger between the two parties before of the 2027 presidential election.
Some observers feel that a unified opposition might pose a serious challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recall that in 2019, Atiku and Obi ran on a combined ticket. Peter Obi was the Vice Presidential Candidate to Atiku Abubakar.
