Aaron Greenspan files motion to expedite the release of approved information amidst Nigerian Supreme Court proceedings
In the midst of the ongoing controversy surrounding the Nigerian presidential election, Aaron Greenspan has taken legal action to expedite the release of approved information through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit.

The information in question pertains to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is widely recognized as the current President of Nigeria. Mr. Tinubu’s past involvement in money laundering for a heroin ring in Chicago during the early 1990s has come under scrutiny.
The 2023 presidential election in Nigeria has been heavily contested. According to The New York Times, “A judicial tribunal in Nigeria confirmed on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, the results of a contested February presidential election that kept Africa’s most populous country on edge amid allegations of voting irregularities and tainted the first months in power for the declared winner, President Bola Tinubu.”

Although The New York Times mentioned that “The plaintiffs have 60 days to file an appeal to Nigeria’s Supreme Court,” recent developments have significantly accelerated the timeline. The Nigerian Supreme Court is set to begin hearing arguments concerning Mr. Tinubu’s election on Monday, October 23, 2023.
This rapid advance in timing appears to coincide with the anticipation of responsive FOIA documents, particularly those from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which could have relevance to the foreign proceedings in Nigeria.

Plaintiff Aaron Greenspan has previously communicated with Defendants regarding the foreign proceedings in Nigeria and the importance of document production. However, no documents have been produced thus far.
Attached to the motion is Exhibit A, which includes a document claimed to be a scheduling order from the Supreme Court of Nigeria related to these matters.
In accordance with Local Civil Rule 7(m), Plaintiff attempted to engage in discussions with Attorney Littman, representing the Defendants, but was informed that he was on leave. Therefore, Plaintiff is requesting a remote hearing, ideally on Monday, October 23, 2023, to discuss the possibility of expediting the release of documents, rather than waiting until the defendants’ self-imposed deadline of October 31, 2023.
This FOIA lawsuit adds a layer of complexity to the ongoing presidential controversy in Nigeria, raising questions about the information that may come to light and its potential impact on the unfolding events.
