Bello Kirfi, an EX- minister of special duties, has been demoted from council member for the second time in five years and stripped of his traditional title of “” by the Bauchi Emirate Council.
It was claimed that the recent development had nothing to do with the former minister’s alleged “disloyalty and disrespect” for State Governor Bala Mohammed.

Former federal employee Kirfi served as a minister in Alhaji Shehu Shagari’s administration in the 1980s and served as provost of the University of Ilorin from 1997 to 1999.
In the 2000s, he was appointed Minister of Special Duties under President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The Octogenarian’s removal was announced in a letter to him from Alh. Shehu Mudi Muhammad, Secretary of the Bauchi Emirate Council.
“Removal from office as a Council Member and Traditional Title of Wazirin Bauchi” was the subject of the document, which was dated January 3rd, 2023 and had the reference number BEC/ADM/20/VOL.XV.
Muhammad claimed in his letter that Kirfi was removed from office as a result of his “disloyalty and disrespectful” behavior toward the governor, which was reported to the Emirate Council by the state’s Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He referred to a letter with the reference number MLG/LG/S/72/T from the Ministry of Local Government Affairs, dated December 30, 2022, saying: “I am directed to refer to this letter.
“Your disloyalty and disrespect for the State Executive Governor and the government were evident in the content of the aforementioned letter. Therefore, it gave the order for your removal to take place right away.
You are hereby relieved of your duties as Wazirin Bauchi and a Council Member of the Bauchi Emirate in light of the foregoing.

The Bauchi Emirate Council suspended Kirfi in March 2017 at the request of Mohammed Abubakar, the governor at the time.
Salmanu Lame, the Emirate Council’s information officer, claimed in a statement made available to journalists that the suspension, which was due to his alleged “disloyalty and unruly behavior,” was effective right away.
However, three years later, in August 2020, the Emir of Bauchi lifted the suspension following the intervention of Governor Bala Mohammed and wider consultations with stakeholders and the Emirate, in particular.
The governor personally paid the elder statesman a visit at his home and gave him a letter reaffirming his position as Wazirin Bauchi. In the letter, the governor praised the man for his patriotism, commitment, and sportsmanship, particularly for his work defending the rights of Nigerians in general and indigenes of Bauchi in particular.

“I am here with my deputy and other top government officials to pay you this auspicious visit, to present to you a message from the Emir of Bauchi, His Royal Highness, Dr. Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu,” he said as he handed the man the letter.
“It is an honor and a privilege for me to present you with your letter of reinstatement as Wazirin Bauchi by the Emir of Bauchi on behalf of the government, the people, and all traditional leaders of Bauchi State. Thank God, I am so grateful that the reinstatement occurred during my administration.
