Bill to Create Ogoja State Passes Second Reading in House of Representatives.

 

The House of Representatives has made significant progress on the proposed creation of Ogoja State, with the bill successfully passing its second reading. Sponsored by Godwin Offiono alongside three other lawmakers, this legislation aims to amend the 1999 Constitution to establish an additional state in the South-South region of Nigeria.

This initiative seeks to address the long-standing aspirations of the people of Ogoja for self-governance and increased political representation. During the motion’s presentation, Mr. Offiono articulated the bill’s essence, stating that it is fundamentally rooted in the principles of equity and justice for the people of Ogoja. He emphasized the importance of recognizing and fulfilling the aspirations of the Ogoja community, which has long sought statehood.
