Among those convicted were Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibikunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, and two others. The police charged them with criminal conspiracy, robbery, and murder.
During the trial, Shamsudeen Bada, a witness, had previously accused the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), led by embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari, of torturing him. He alleged that the operatives coerced him to implicate former Senate President Bukola Saraki as the mastermind behind the robbery.
