Rivers APC suspends party chair, legal adviser over anti-party activities
On Wednesday, the Rivers State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress suspended the party’s chairman, Chief Emeka Beke, and legal adviser, Iheanyichukwu Azubuike, for anti-party activities and financial misconduct.
In addition, the SEC distanced itself from statements allegedly made by the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, claiming that the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, nominated Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission on his own.
This was disclosed on Wednesday by Chike Eyinda, the special leader of the party’s executive committee in the state, who led other members to a press conference in Port Harcourt.
Eyinda noted that the activities of Beke and Amaechi had negatively impacted the party over the past few years, culminating in its dismal performance in the most recent national election.
He stated, “We, the members of the State Executive Committee, therefore resolve that Chef Emeka Beke, the chairman of the APC in Rivers State, is suspended indefinitely for anti-party activities, gross misconduct, and financial mismanagement, pending the findings of an independent committee of inquiry that the party may appoint.”
“Until the findings of the committee of inquiry are known, Mr Omiete Eferebo, the vice chairman, shall assume the position of acting chairman with immediate effect.
Mr. Iheanyichukwu Azubuike, the party’s legal adviser, is also suspended for anti-party activities and financial mismanagement pending the committee’s investigation.

He added that Amaechi, Beke, and Azubuike had held the Rivers APC to its knees since 2021.
Enyinda stated, “These leaders are accountable for the mass exodus of party members as well as the party’s failures in the recently concluded general elections in the state.
“To demonstrate this, Rt. Hon. Amaechi, who contested and lost the Presidential primary to President-elect Bola Tinubu, convened a meeting with the leadership of the party and instructed all APC members in the state to work for the PDP in the general election, a week before the presidential election.
