Buhari sacks CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele
President Muhammadu has sacked the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Godwin Emefiele has caused a stir by stating that he is sincerely considering running for president of Nigeria, but he does not intend to step down from his current post prior to running for office. This has led to a number of scandals surrounding Emefiele.
Emefiele went to the Federal High Court in Abuja after receiving numerous calls for his resignation from members of the public not long after he purchased the N100 million form of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He did this to prevent the electoral commission of the country, INEC, from disqualifying him from the election.
As a response to the statement of interest by his appointments, President Buhari issued an order demanding the resignation of every single member of his cabinet who was interested in running for political office in 2023.
Although some of his appointees complied with the order, the majority of them, including the Governor of the CBN, refused to step down from their positions.
The lawsuit that the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had brought against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) regarding his bid for the presidency was withdrawn on Tuesday.
