Amos Utuama, Former Deputy Governor of Delta is dead.
A former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Professor Amos Agbe Utuama, SAN, has passed away. Utuama, who served as deputy governor from 2007 to 2015, reportedly died early Saturday in Lagos following a prolonged illness.
Born on June 5, 1947, Utuama was a well-respected Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and a dedicated public servant. He served under Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for eight years on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Prior to his role as deputy governor, he was the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Delta State under Governor James Ibori.
Though an official family statement has yet to be released, political associates confirmed his passing to Ejes Gist News. Professor Utuama was also a distinguished academic, having taught law at the University of Lagos before his foray into politics.
He hailed from Otughievwen (Otu-Jeremi) in Ughievwen Kingdom, Ughelli South LGA of Delta State. Sources indicate that his health had been declining since the loss of his wife, Dr. Nelly Utuama.
