Simon Ekpa, a popular pro-Biafra separatist agitator, was released by Finnish police on Thursday, hours after he was arrested and interrogated.
Ejes Gist News Nigeria had previously reported that Ekpa was arrested by Finnish authorities. The police escorted the separatist from his Lahti apartment.

Ekpa was subsequently released on Thursday evening following his alleged arrest by Finnish police for a suspected crime.
The Finnish Central Criminal Police confirmed Ekpa’s release on Thursday.
The police asserted that their operation in Lahti and subsequent arrest of the pro-Biafra activist were related to the ongoing preliminary investigation.
“The suspect being interrogated today is suspected of committing a crime. Tommi Reen of the Central Criminal Police told journalists in a phone interview, “We will return to the case on Friday.”
A Finnish Embassy official in Abuja who requested anonymity confirmed Ekpa’s arrest to newsmen when contacted earlier.
The official who was not authorized to speak to the press said, “It is our understanding that he is currently in police custody in Finland.”

“According to the information available to us, the image is confirmed by the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat; in it, Ekpa is seen being escorted out of his Lahti home by plainclothes Finnish police,” the official volunteered.
Before his arrest on Thursday, Nigerians from around the globe signed a petition urging the Finnish government, the Nigerian government, and the European Union to arrest Ekpa, the mastermind behind the South-East sit-at-home order.
Ekpa, a self-proclaimed disciple of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, had repeatedly demanded that the people of the South-East observe a sit-in and abstain from Saturday’s scheduled general elections.
The enforcers of his repeated Sit-at-home order have caused death and destruction of property and life in the region.
