Fresh Plot to Dethrone Emir Sanusi II Allegedly Orchestrated by Ganduje.
A new scheme to remove Muhammad Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano State has emerged, with reports indicating that key figures in Kano, led by Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the All Progressive Congress (APC) National Chairman, are behind the effort.
Sources within the Kofar Kudu Palace suggest that Ganduje’s primary objective is to secure the backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to dethrone Sanusi, who was formerly the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor and the 16th Emir of Kano. In addition, Ganduje is also reportedly putting pressure on the current Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, to step down, all under the pretext of resolving leadership tensions in the state.
Ganduje and Emir Sanusi’s relationship has long been strained, dating back to 2020, when the former governor played a key role in Sanusi’s controversial deposition. Now, Ganduje is reportedly building a loyal coalition of Kano APC members, including influential politicians and business leaders, with the goal of leveraging presidential power to complete his long-standing mission to remove Emir Sanusi permanently.
While the Kano State Government continues to recognize Sanusi as the legitimate Emir, powerful factions loyal to the APC and the presidency acknowledge Aminu Ado Bayero as the Emir. This new plot is seen as an attempt to consolidate power within the emirate and further Ganduje’s control over the traditional institution.
As this situation develops, President Tinubu’s response will be pivotal in determining the outcome of this fresh bid to unseat the emir.
