On Saturday, the convoy of Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello was obstructed and attacked by individuals believed to be supporters of Alh. Muritala Yakubu Ajaka.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 12.30 hours, resulted in numerous injuries.
According to a statement issued by Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the state commissioner for information and communications, the attack occurred a few kilometres from Lokoja near the Naval Base.
Fanwo observed that upon spotting the Governor’s convoy, Muritala Yakubu Ajaka’s convoy blocked the road, and Ajaka’s armed thugs began firing randomly at the Governor’s convoy.
The statement reads as follows: “A Tundra bearing the SDP logo and SDP flags also blocked the governor’s vehicle, and its occupants were armed with rifles and handguns. The Governor escaped the scene unharmed, and there is no cause for alarm as he is in good spirits.

“Some security aides and other aides attached to the Governor were injured to varying degrees and were rushed to medical facilities for treatment.”
“We urge the citizens of Kogi State to remain calm, as security agents are in full control to ensure the capture of the assailants. The State Government will ensure the maintenance of law and order as the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The statement concluded, “The Governor has warned APC members not to engage in reprisal attacks, as insecurity from any source will be met with severe penalties.”
