BREAKING: Governor Declares Curfew As Terrorists Attack Plateau Communities

Following a deadly terrorist attack on Sunday evening, the Plateau State government has declared a 24-hour curfew in the state’s Mangu Local Government Area.

 

According to information obtained by our correspondent, an unknown number of terrorists invaded some communities in the area today, shooting sporadically at innocent citizens.

As of the time of reporting, the number of casualties recorded in the affected communities could not be confirmed. According to sources, the assailants invaded at least four communities in the LGA, including Mangu town, and killed several residents while burning down several houses.

Bala Fwangji, a lawmaker representing the Mangu South constituency, confirmed the incident to the news platform over the phone on Sunday night, saying, “All I can tell you is that war has been declared on our people in Mangu.”

They are simply attacking and killing our people on all sides. The attacks began today in the Bwai community, then spread to Mangu town, and have now spread to Sabon Gari. Our people are in desperate need of assistance. The Local Government Authority has declared a 24-hour curfew in the LGA to alleviate the situation.”

The chairman of the Interim Management Committee in the LGA, Markus Artu, announced the curfew in a statement made available to newsmen, saying: “A 24-hour curfew has been declared in Mangu Local Government Area.” As a result, there will be no vehicular movement.

“Furthermore, all motorbike movement has been prohibited until further notice.” Only security personnel and essential workers will be permitted to move.”

It was learned that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force had previously been deployed to the troubled LGA and other areas in the state in order to protect the people from further terrorist attacks that had occurred in recent months.

 

However, as of the time of publication, no security agency had issued an official statement on the latest attack.
