INEC Declares PDP, Ugonna Ozurigbo, Winner Of Reps Suspended Election In Imo

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Ugonna Ozurigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party the winner of the February 25 House of Representatives election held in the Nwangele/ Nkwerre/ Isu/ Njaba Federal Constituency of Imo State.

Prof. Rosetta Okechukwu, the collation officer for the federal constituency, announced the results at the collation office in the Nwangele Local Government Area. She stated that the PDP candidate received 19, 971 votes, the Labour Party candidate received 9, 372 votes, and Harrison Nwadike of the All Progressives Congress received 8, 991 votes.

INEC declared the election inconclusive on February 27, stating that elections did not take place in portions of Njaba LGA.

The PDP candidate, however, contested the election official’s decision to declare the election inconclusive.

Ozurigbo argued that his vote margin was greater than the number of Permanent Voter Cards collected in areas where the election was not held.

After two months of reviewing the contentious issues, INEC declared the PDP candidate the winner of the election.

Ozurigbo stated shortly after his proclamation that the will of his people had prevailed.

He stated that he would return to the House of Representatives in an effort to better the lives of his constituents.
