LP/Obi unable to continue with case at PEPC
The Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate Peter Obi were unable to proceed with their case before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Wednesday.
The court scheduled further hearings in their petition for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, allowing them four hours to continue presenting their case by calling additional witnesses and submitting additional evidence.
At the Wednesday mention of the case, Awa Kalu (SAN), a lawyer for the petitioners, told the court that they had planned to begin tendering of documents, but are unable to do so due to challenges at their secretariat.
Two key petitioners’ secretariat employees fell ill, preventing them from proceeding with the day’s business, according to Kalu.
He requested a change until Thursday.
Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), representing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wole Olanipekun (SAN), representing Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettma, and Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), did not object to Kalu’s request for adjournment.
Mahmoud urged the court, however, to record the day against the petitioners and deduct it from the number of days previously allotted to them to present their case.
Justice Haruna Tsammani, the presiding judge, granted Kalu’s request for a postponement and adjourned the trial until Thursday at 9:00 a.m.

Wednesday was also a disappointing day for the petitioners, as they were only able to utilise a fraction of the three hours allotted to them.
They were only permitted to present one witness and two sets of documents.
The PEPC will reconvene at 2:00 p.m. to continue hearing the petition filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Atiku Abubakar.
