“Suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, Granted Bail in Alleged Gun Possession Trial”
The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted bail to Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in connection with his alleged gun possession trial. Justice Nicholas Oweibo presided over the proceedings and approved Emefiele’s release on a N20 million bail bond, with one surety providing a similar amount.

Emefiele, facing a two-count charge filed by the Federal Ministry of Justice, pleaded “not guilty” to the accusations. In response to the Federal Government’s claim that Emefiele was a flight risk, the judge dismissed the notion, citing a lack of substantial evidence to support the government’s position.
The 61-year-old banker had sought bail through his legal team, led by Chief Joseph Daudu, SAN, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association.
