New Naira Crisis: Fighting erupts in Lagos

On the popular Lagos-Ikorodu expressway in Lagos State, fighting broke out due to the scarcity of the new naira notes and the hardships the policy has caused for Nigerians.

On Friday morning, this online newspaper learned that suspects on the expressway in the Mile 12, Ketu, and Ojota areas attacked commuters and caused chaos.

A driver for one of the cab-hailing companies operating in the state who does not wish to have his name published out of fear of retaliation stated that he had to turn into one of the streets due to the chaos.

Tweeps who shared information about ongoing fighting in the area claimed to have heard gunfire.

The Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police, Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed the unrest in the Mile 12 area of Lagos State.

He announced this via his Twitter account on Friday.

In response to a tweet requesting that the PPRO confirm the rumor, Hundeyin responded, “It is true. Our men have arrived. Units of reinforcement have been deployed. “Remain safe while we carefully monitor and manage the situation.”
