Tinubu Mediates in Fubara-Wike Rift, Police Council Confirms Egbetokun as IGP.

 

Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu stepped into the political feud between Governor Simi Fubara of Rivers State and his predecessor, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in a bid to resolve the conflict that has plunged the state into turmoil.

The intervention occurred during a meeting of the Police Council, attended by both parties as members.

The rift between the two political allies had escalated to a point where it threatened the political stability of Rivers State. Despite their animosity, Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike shared pleasantries before the commencement of the Council meeting.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who also serves as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF), confirmed President Tinubu’s intervention. He revealed this information while briefing State House correspondents following the meeting, which President Tinubu presided over at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Governor Mohammed expressed the commitment of opposition governors to work with the President, as they recognized his good faith in not interfering with gubernatorial cases brought before the courts by PDP members.

The move towards reconciliation took place against the backdrop of the confirmation of Kayode Egbetokun as the substantive Inspector General of Police (IGP) by the Police Council.

 

The Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam, justified Egbetokun’s confirmation, citing his excellent performance since being appointed in an acting capacity. He further highlighted Egbetokun’s blueprint for enhancing the country’s security as a testament to his suitability for the position.

The intervention by President Tinubu provides hope for a resolution to the political conflict in Rivers State and aims to restore stability to the region.
