In a significant shake-up, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sacked Engr. Chukwuemeka Woke from his position as the Managing Director of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA). This decision follows heated protests and debates regarding Woke’s initial appointment.

Woke, previously the Chief of Staff to Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former governor of Rivers State, has been reassigned to the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) as its Director-General/Chief Executive Officer.

The reassignment comes after various groups and individuals expressed concerns over Woke’s appointment, citing issues of familiarity and regional representation. Addressing these concerns, President Tinubu appointed Dr. Adedeji Ashiru as the new head of OORBDA.

Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale announced the changes on Wednesday, emphasizing the qualifications of both appointees. Engr. Woke, a specialist in environmental safety with a background in Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering, previously served in various capacities, including as Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area and Chief of Staff at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
