A two-storey building under construction in the Okpanam community, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, collapsed on Saturday, trapping several workers. The incident, which occurred opposite Asaba Airport, adjacent to a Nigerian Police Station (former SARS), followed a heavy downpour that caused panic among residents nearby.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that some workers were rescued, while search efforts continued for others still trapped under the rubble.

One of the workers, identified as Unor, reported that several of his colleagues sustained severe injuries as they attempted to jump from the second floor to escape being trapped. Some workers managed to escape unharmed, while those injured were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Unor noted that, in fear of arrest, some individuals involved in the building project fled the scene after the collapse. Local residents also helped in the rescue efforts, assisting in pulling victims from the debris.

As of the time of filing this report, Delta State Commissioner for Housing, Godknows Agele, had not responded to calls or messages seeking comment on the incident.
