Buhari appoints ex-IGP Arase, 6 others none from South East

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the Senate to vet and approve the nomination of former Inspector-General of Police Solomon Arase (ret.) for appointment as chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).

The President’s request was contained in a letter that was read on the Senate floor by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

Buhari stated that the appointment was in accordance with Section 154 (1) of the Constitution of 1999 (as amended).

Arase will replace Musliu Smith as the substantive Chairman of the PSC if confirmed by the Senate.

 

Also on Tuesday, Buhari forwarded two names to the Independent National Electoral Commission for confirmation as Resident Electoral Commissioners (INEC).

Dr. Mahmuda Isah of Kebbi State, whose appointment is up for renewal, and Dr. Mann Omobayi Alli of Ondo State, whose appointment is new, are the new appointees.

In a second communication to the Senate, Buhari requested the appointment of five members of the Code of Conduct Bureau.

They are Murtala A. Kankia from Katsina State representing (North West ); Zephaniah Ishaku Bulus from  Nasarawa State representing (North Central) and Farouq Umar from Yobe State representing (North East).

Others are Abdulsalam Taofiq Olawale from Ondo State to represent (South West) and Prof. Juwayriya Badamasiuy from Kogi State to represent (North Central).

The President urged the Senate to consider and confirm all nominees as quickly as is customary.
