Presidential Tribunal: How BVAS failed to transmit results – INEC officials
Two ad hoc staff members of the Independent National Electoral Commission who were subpoenaed by the Peoples Democratic Party have admitted that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System failed to transmit the presidential election results after the collation.
The witnesses, Friday Egwuma and Grace Timothy, told the Presidential Election Petition Court on Thursday that the BVAS machine assigned to them developed a system error immediately following the transmission of the Senate and House of Representatives poll results.
Two employees of the electoral body explained in their subpoenaed testimony that when it became clear that the BVAS machines would not assist them in obtaining the results, they were forced to resort to other methods.
Egwuma was a Presiding Officer in an Abia State polling unit, while Grace Timothy was an INEC employee in Plateau State.
Aside from the failure of the BVAS machines to transmit the results of the presidential election, both witnesses acknowledged that voting went smoothly at their respective workplaces.
Egwuma explained under cross-examination by Abubakar Mahmud SAN, who represented the electoral body, that he substituted an offline system for the BVAS machines.

In her own testimony, Grace Timothy told the court that uploading the presidential election results to the I-rev portal posed the greatest challenge she faced during the election.
Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN, who represented the All Progressives Congress APC, also cross-examined the witnesses.
In the meantime, the presiding judge of the court, Justice Harun Simon Tsammani, has rescheduled further hearings on the petition for June 9.
