C/River Guber: Prince Otu’s Victory At Polls Threatened As Onor Makes Dangerous Moves
Ejes Gist News reports that Sandy Onor decision to challenge the outcome of the March 18th governorship election has thrown a spanner in the party’s wheel of progress ahead of swearing-in.
The election petition tribunal siting in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, has granted the application of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Sandy Ojang Onor, to access and inspect sensitive election materials the Independent National Electoral Commission deployed for the conduct of the March 18 governorship polls in the state.
The Cross River State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal holden at Calabar, Cross River State, have granted prayers 1-5 of Sen. Prof. Sandy Ojang Onor and the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Petition No: EPT/CR/GOV/03M/2023, filed on April 4, 2023.
The tribunal led by Justice J.O Okeya-Inneh, ordered thus;
“The Parties herein, are given permission to do; electronic scanning and/or make photocopies of voters’ register, Polling Units result sheets, ward collation result sheets, Local Government collation result Sheets, Declaration of result sheet used in the conduct of the election for Office of the Governor of Cross River State, held on the 18th day of March 2023…”
The Petition has, the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), Sen. Prince Bassey Otu, Hon. Peter Agbe Odey and All Progressives Congress(APC) as 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th respondents respectively.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on the 20th of March declared Prince Bassey Otu as the winner of the Cross River State governorship election.
Otu polled a total of 258,619 votes to defeat his closest rival, Senator Sandy Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party who garnered 179,636 votes.
Otu won in 15 of the 18 local government areas while PDP won three LGAs.
Declaring Otu winner, the state Returning Officer and the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Otuoke, Teddy Adias said, “That Otu Bassey Edet, having got the maximum number of valid votes and having met the requirements of the law is hereby declared elected.” He announced that there were 1766466 registered voters in the 18 LGAs of the state.
