Court Remands 30 Women Protesting against Supreme Court Judgment

A Chief Magistrate Court in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, has issued an order to detain 30 women who were part of protests at the Correctional Centre.

The order stems from allegations of violence and destruction of public facilities during demonstrations following the Supreme Court’s recent verdict affirming Governor Abdullahi Sule’s election.

The Nigeria Police arrested and charged the women, accusing them of engaging in violent acts, obstructing roads, and damaging public property.

The court also remanded eight male suspects facing charges related to road blockage, public disturbance, and destruction of public facilities. The identities of those in custody remain undisclosed.

The court adjourned the matter for a hearing on their bail applications scheduled for Monday, January 22.

This action follows the warning by Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, against engaging in violence surrounding the Supreme Court judgement, issued at a peace pact ceremony for APC and PDP leaders.
