Donald Trump And His Lawyers Sanctioned Nearly $1m For Claiming Hilary Clinton Tried To Rig 2016 Election

According to District Judge John Middlebrooks, the Republican who is running for president again in 2024 displayed a “continuing pattern of misuse of the courts” and filed the lawsuit “in order to dishonestly advance a political narrative,” he said on Thursday, January 19.
According to the lawsuit, Trump won the 2016 presidential election over Clinton, and it was falsely reported that her campaign coordinated with Russia.
Trump had requested $70 million in damages in the lawsuit.
In the 45-page written court order, Middlebrooks stated that the lawsuit “should never had been brought.”

Its weakness as a legal claim was clear right away. No sane attorney would have submitted it. None of the counts in the amended complaint stated a legally cognizable claim; they were all included for political purposes only, the judge ruled.
The order also penalizes Alina Habba, Trump’s attorney.
The total amount of sanctions imposed to cover the defendants’ legal fees and costs is $937,989.39, and Trump and Habba are jointly and severally liable for it.
Trump is “a prolific and sophisticated litigant who is repeatedly using the courts to seek retribution on political adversaries,” Middlebrooks wrote in the suit judgment.
He cannot be viewed as a litigant who is obediently following the counsel of a lawyer because he is the mastermind of deliberate abuse of the legal system. He was fully aware of the consequences of his actions.
