Customs Officer Dies During Engagement At National Assembly.
Abuja, Nigeria – A Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) officer tragically died while attending a session with a House of Representatives committee at the National Assembly on Tuesday afternoon.
The officer, whose identity has been kept confidential to respect the family’s privacy.
Ejes Gist News gathered that he , suddenly fell ill around 1:00 pm during the engagement. Despite immediate efforts from first responders and medical staff at the National Assembly Clinic, the officer could not be saved.
Akin Rotimi, Jr., House Spokesman and Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, confirmed the incident in a statement. “It is with deep sadness and regret that we confirm the passing of an esteemed official of the Nigeria Customs Service who was at the National Assembly for an engagement with a House Committee,” he said.
“The official developed sudden health complications during the engagement. Despite the immediate and diligent efforts of first responders and medical personnel at the National Assembly Clinic, he unfortunately passed away,” Rotimi explained.
The House of Representatives expressed heartfelt condolences to the officer’s family, friends, and colleagues. “We recognize the significant contributions he made to the Nigeria Customs Service and to our nation,” the statement added.
