Dangote Group has responded to news reports about the opening of its refinery this month.
On Sunday, it was said that Dangote’s multi-billion-Naira refinery would kickstart on January 23.

But in a chat with journalists in Lagos, one Timilehin Oyedare from Dangote Group’s Digital Communications Unit, Corporate Communications, said that the reports were not true.
He said that no date has been set for starting up the project.
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) said last year that the refinery was 97 percent finished.

Farouk Ahmed, the head of NMDPRA, said this when representatives of the Dangote Refinery came to his office in Abuja to show him the facility’s work plan for 2022–2023.
The Dangote Integrated Refinery and Petrochemicals Complex is in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos.
The total cost of building the refinery was estimated at $19 billion, and it is considered one of the biggest in Africa.
