Delta State Electricity Power Sector Bill latest update.
The Delta State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed the Electricity Power Sector Bill, 2024, after its third reading at the plenary in Asaba, presided over by Speaker Mr. Dennis Guwor.

The bill, initially scheduled to be considered at the Committee of the Whole, was given an accelerated hearing.
This move came after the Majority Leader, Mr. Emeka Nwaobi, moved a motion to suspend Order 12 Rules 79-83 of the Assembly’s Standing Rules, allowing for the third reading and passage of the bill.

The motion was unanimously adopted following a voice vote by the Assembly, with Mr. Frank Esenwah (PDP-Oshimili North) seconding the motion.
In his remarks after the bill’s passage, Speaker Guwor expressed confidence that once signed into law, the bill would enhance electricity supply and stimulate economic activities in the state.

“The passage of this bill marks a significant step towards improving electricity supply in Delta State,” Guwor stated.

Guwor also commended his colleagues for their commitment and contributions toward the passage of the bill, adding, “I sincerely appreciate your support and contributions throughout the legislative process of this bill. Your efforts will greatly improve the electricity sector in the state.
