The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the federal government held a meeting, but unfortunately, they were unable to reach an agreement.
The federal government called for a meeting with organised labour to discuss the announcement made by President Bola Tinubu that petrol subsidy would end by the end of June. The purpose of the meeting was to reach an agreement.
Dele Alake, a member of the government’s team, stated that the meeting held on Wednesday night was engaging, but no specific information was provided.
Alake stated that they have been discussing ways to resolve the issue of long queues and the increase in pump price in a friendly manner.
We had a very active and involved discussion. During our discussion, we exchanged ideas and had a productive brainstorming session. One noteworthy contribution came from Nigeria, even from the perspective of the labour side. Our focus is on Nigeria’s peace, progress, and stability. It is important.

The NNPCL GCEO, Mr. Kyari, is present at the moment. However, we cannot provide any specific information as the discussions are still in progress.

According to Joe Ajaero, the president of NLC, and Festus Osifo, his counterpart in Trade Union Congress (TUC), the meeting did not result in a consensus.

The organised labour has announced that they will reconvene the meeting at a later date, after they have consulted with their members.
The federal government was represented by several officials including Folashade Yemi-Esan, who is the head of the federal civil service, Mele Kyari, who is the group chief executive officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPCL), and Tijjani Umar, who is the permanent secretary of the state house.
