Dino Melaye Reveals Why APC Defeated PDP in Edo Governorship Election
Dino Melaye Alleges APC Infiltration of PDP Leadership After Edo Election Defeat
Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has raised serious allegations against the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming that the party’s leadership has been infiltrated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Melaye, the infiltration occurred under the leadership of the PDP’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun.

Melaye, known for his outspoken views, made the claims after the PDP’s defeat in the recently concluded Edo State governorship election. Taking to his social media platform on X (formerly Twitter), the former senator expressed his concern over the direction the PDP is heading under Damagun’s stewardship.
“With the destroyer called Damagun on the wheels, PDP is in the departure lounge waiting for the boarding pass,” Melaye warned, suggesting that the party’s future looks bleak unless changes are made at the top. He insinuated that the loss in Edo State was only the beginning of larger issues within the party, stating that more APC loyalists are present within the PDP’s NWC than actual PDP members.

The Edo State election saw the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, defeated by the APC’s Monday Okpebholo. According to official results from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ighodalo garnered 247,274 votes, while Okpebholo won with 291,667 votes, sealing the APC’s victory.
Melaye has previously expressed dissatisfaction with Damagun’s leadership, accusing him of weakening the party’s legacy. He pointed to the contributions of PDP’s founding figures, such as Alex Ekwueme, Solomon Lar, and Tony Anenih, and argued that they would be “turning in their graves” over the current state of the party under Damagun’s watch.

The PDP’s recent electoral setbacks and Melaye’s vocal criticisms have reignited internal debates within the party as it grapples with the challenges of repositioning itself ahead of future elections. Whether Melaye’s allegations will spark reforms or further deepen divisions within the PDP remains to be seen.
