Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has officially approved a new minimum wage of N80,000 for civil service workers, effective from November 1, 2024.
This decision aims to alleviate the financial strain experienced by workers amid rising living costs.
In addition to the minimum wage increase, Governor Diri has also sanctioned an enhancement in the monthly pensions for retired workers and allocated N7 billion to address outstanding gratuity liabilities.
His spokesperson, Daniel Alabrah, announced these measures in a statement, emphasising the governor’s recognition of the difficult economic circumstances facing workers in the state.

The statement read: “To address the harsh times and in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment Act 2024), the Prosperity Administration of His Excellency Senator Douye Diri has approved the sum of N80,000 as minimum wage for the state’s workers. Governor Diri also approved an increase in the monthly pension of state retirees.”
Furthermore, Diri noted that the necessary consequential adjustments for various sectors will be implemented in agreement with the leadership of Labour in the state. He also expressed his commitment to supporting retired senior citizens through the reduction of outstanding gratuity liabilities.
Governor Diri commended the workers and their leaders for their patience, understanding, and dedication to the Prosperity Government’s policies and programmes.
