“He has been handed over to EFCC” – DSS speaks on the Arrest of Doyin Okupe

Doyin Okupe, the former director general of the Peter Obi/Datti Presidential Campaign, was arrested, according to information released by the Department of State Security Services, or DSS.

Okupe was detained by DSS agents at the request of the EFCC, according to a statement sent to ejesgist.ng and signed by the agency’s PRO, Peter Afunanya (PhD, Fsi).

Doyin Okupe was detained by the DSS at Terminal 1 of Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos this morning at the request of the EFCC, according to the statement.

He has already been given to the Commission that made the request. Okupe was scheduled to take a Virgin Atlantic flight to London.

The agency’s statement was released shortly after Okupe’s attorney, Tolu Babaleye, expressed concern about the arrest on social media.

Former director general of the Peter Obi/Datti presidential campaign Doyin Okupe has been detained by the Department of State Security Services,  DSS.

At Lagos’ Muritala Muhammed International Airport, he was taken into custody.

Tolu Babaleye, one of his attorneys, revealed this on Thursday morning.

According to information gathered Dr. Doyin Okupe was detained by the DSS at the Lagos Airport while en route to London.

The reason, according to the source, is that he was required to provide proof that the Federal High Court in Abuja had released him from the case in which he had been found guilty, had to pay a fine, and had been given permission to return home.

“When will this bullying end? Who is Dr. Doyin Okupe’s pursuant? As of right now, the man has no case to answer anywhere, so I hereby demand that the DSS release my Client right away because doing otherwise violates his right to liberty, right to movement, and right to the dignity of all people.
