Dr. Monica Eimunjeze has been named acting director-general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) by the federal government.
Her nomination, which became effective on November 12, 2022, according to an internal memo dated November 17, 2022, by Oboli A.U and copied to all Directors at the agency, follows the expiration of Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye‘s five-year term as director-general.

Before her appointment, Dr. Eimunjeze was not only the Director of Registration and Regulatory Affair but also the agency’s most senior Director .
A 1986 graduate of Ahmadu University Zaria’s School of Pharmacy, she is a distinguished pharmacist who has worked for NAFDAC for almost a decade.
She has previously served as the Technical Assistant to the Agency’s Director-General and as the Director of Drug Evaluation and Research.
The message states, “The management has received a letter designating Dr. Monica Hemben Eimunjeze as the acting director-general of NAFDAC, effective November 12, 2022.” I am thus directed to provide you with this material for your guidance.”
In response to questions from media in Abuja on Friday morning, a prominent union representative at the agency, who requested anonymity, stated that the agency’s employees are pleased because the acting director-general is one of them.
“We are ecstatic that the Federal government, in its wisdom, has nominated an interim DG for NAFDAC,” Dr Monica Eimunjeze a team member. She has been with the agency for over ten years and is familiar with its problems; therefore, we anticipate she will perform admirably. We are excited and eager to work with her to recover the agency’s lost years, said the union leader.
Key players in the pharmaceutical business have also expressed their satisfaction with the latest appointment by the Federal Ministry of Health.
