Shaibu’s impeachment came after his repeated refusal to attend invitations from the seven-man panel tasked with investigating allegations against him. Despite multiple invitations, Shaibu failed to appear before the panel to present his defense.

Awoyale had requested the panel to adhere to a Federal High Court order instructing them to provide reasons why an interlocutory injunction should not be granted to maintain the status quo in the petition proceedings until the case’s determination.
Despite Awoyale’s plea for the panel to await the Federal High Court’s decision on the matter scheduled for April 8, 2024, the impeachment process against Shaibu proceeded as planned.
