EFCC has arrested a serving APC Senator for N805 million fraud.

Peter Nwaoboshi, the senator for Delta North, was remanded in the Ikoyi Custodial Centre on Wednesday, seven months after the Court of Appeal in Lagos sentenced him to seven years in prison for money laundering to the tune of N805 million.

 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reports that Nwaoboshi has been on the run since July 1, 2022.

The anti-corruption agency’s head of media and publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement that the lawmaker was detained by EFCC agents at a Lagos hospital on February 6.

The appellate court sentenced Nwaoboshi to prison on July 1, 2022, after convicting him on two counts of money laundering.

The court also ordered the dissolution of his two companies, Golden Touch Construction Project Ltd. and Suiming Electrical Ltd., and the forfeiture of their assets to the Federal Government, pursuant to Section 22 of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act of 2021.

Peter Nwaoboshi, who was elected under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), dumped his party in 2022 and joined the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
