Umar Farouk, the national secretary of the Labour Party, led the party’s monitoring team to the polling stations involved in the by-elections on Saturday. In a press conference, Farouk highlighted several irregularities, stating that due process was not followed during the election.
Farouk outlined specific concerns, including compromised accreditation, hijacked result sheets, disregard for BVAS machines, and alleged prevention of voters from exercising their right to vote. He emphasized that these issues cast doubt on the integrity of the electoral process.

Accompanied by the party’s House of Representatives candidate, Dennis Agbo, Farouk called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to promptly annul the elections in areas where illegalities were reported.
Dennis Agbo joined the call for an immediate and complete cancellation of the supplementary election. He accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of using local government vigilantes to intimidate LP supporters. Agbo further claimed that LP members were forcibly removed from polling booths by the local vigilantes, and he alleged that INEC officials took instructions from PDP officials, allowing voting to occur in private residences.
The LP’s demand for a thorough investigation and cancellation underscores the significance of transparent and fair electoral processes in upholding the democratic values of the nation.
