The Federal Government has authorized the disbursement of a special allowance of twenty-five thousand naira (N25,000) for medical and dental doctors working in federal hospitals, medical centers, and clinics.
This decision comes as part of the government’s efforts to address the current strike by the National Association of Resident Doctors.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the national salary and wages commission, Ekpo Nta, made this announcement, stating that the allowance will be funded from the overhead budget.

The Federal government has responded to some of the striking doctors’ demands by issuing circulars.
One of the circulars pertains to the Review of CONMESS, proposing a twenty-five percent increase for grades one to six (1-6) and a thirty-five percent increase for grade seven (7). Another circular concerns the Review of CONHESS, suggesting a twenty-five percent increase for grades one to fourteen (1-14) and a thirty-five percent increase for grade fifteen (15).
Additionally, there is a circular addressing Hazard Allowance for Doctors working outside hospitals.

It is important to note that the resident doctors initiated the indefinite strike on Tuesday night, July 25.
Their demands include the immediate payment of the 2023 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), the prompt release of the circular on one-for-one replacement, payment of skipping arrears, and an upward review of CONMESS to restore it to the 2014 value in line with full salary restoration.
